The Kalua Kleen range uses plastic-packaging containing the EcoPure® additive. EcoPure® is a revolutionary organic plastic additive that significantly increases the biodegradation¹ rate of plastics and plastic products.

EcoPure® causes plastic to biodegrade* through a series of chemical and biological processes in a landfill disposal environment and marine environment. As a result, EcoPure® plastics biodegrade in 3~5 years on average compared to 450~5000 years for current plastic biodegradation time.

Kalua Kleen Laundry Powder sachets are Phosphate free

Phosphates were used for a long time in laundry and dishwashing detergents for their ability to cut through oil and grease and soften water. However, the downside of increased phosphates in waste water that eventually made it into our waterways was it encouraged the growth of algae blooms which had a determental effect on the native plant and animal life. As a result phosphates were banned from laundry detergents in Australia from 2014.

Tests are generally conducted using 20% to 30% solids content; solids content in naturally wetter landfills range from 55% to 65%, while the driest landfills may reach 93%.
